Southern region of Peru, with great historical significance to Peruvian history due to it being the center of the Incan empire.
Many beautiful and historically significant sights and tourist destinations to see here. Pretty much the #1 tourist destination in Peru and also #1 expat haven. Fun, charmy, lots to do and see. The Sacred Valley is also home to many medicinal and (alternative) healing centers, hippies, and spiritual retreat type of places.
Of course, it all depends on what cities/towns you’re visiting, and what sights you see. But regardless, there’s lots to do for everyone.
Towns in Sacred Valley:
- Cusco – the biggest town in the Sacred Valley. Probably the first stop you should make to get familiar with the area and have a nice time. From here, you can start exploring the other smaller towns as part of a tour or taking a few days to stay in each one. Up to you.
- Pisac – the “hippie town”. Don’t stay in town center. Go to one of those hostel or retreat type of places up the hills. More beautiful views and immersed living within nature. I stayed at Wallpari Sonqo and loved it. The Pisac ruins is nearby here. Check out Mirador Taray for beautiful views, and the Altar Inca restaurant right next to it.
- Ollantaytambo
- Urubamba
- Maras
- Chinchero
- Aguas Calientes –
- Yucay
- Calca –

Activities to do:
- Historical sites – pay 70 SOL and you have access to 5 historical sites for 48 hours. A great deal if you want to go around checking them out. I think it’s a great deal and worthwhile activity. Interesting ruins with greenery and lots of photo ops.
