More-developed touristy Vietnam island, catering to fancier travelers and numerous family activities.
Phu Quoc island is much bigger (than Con Dao island), with more things to do. Hotels, parks, fancier housing, many more restaurants and bars, and also many more foreigners.
2 days is enough to get a taste and experience the island life, but I would do 4-7 days here to explore and chill more.
Where to stay:
- Night market – probably where you’ll spend most of your time around when out of the house. Too hot and sunny during the day, you’ll be home or on the beach. But at night, you’ll be out and about in the more vibrant parts of town and looking for food.
- Beach areas – if you wanna bum it on the beach.
- Resort areas – if you want to stay in fancy resort and perhaps with family and don’t mind isolation or further travel distance to everything else.
Really depends what you’re looking for, what kind of vibe you want, and how long you want to stay.
Hostels & Hotels:
- Orchid Guesthouse – somewhat remote location but still general area of most hostels, most social vibe and highly rated overall. It’s a super chill spot where life slows down and everyone is mega chilled, relaxed, and friendly. Very vibey.
- Langchia Home – another well-rated spot.
- Fine9 Hostel – another well-rated hostel, closer to the beach.
- Saigon Mai – more towards north. Nice view and super close to the beach. More like fancy homestay. Great reviews.
- Cottage Village –

Activities to do:
- Beaches – Bai Tam Sao is the chill hangout one for the day, Sunset Sanato Beach Club is a nice spot with bar and restaurant and cool sculptures to take IG photos (go here for sunset, or earlier like 4pm to beat the crowd). Other beaches are going to be a hit or miss…Khem Beach is the most beautiful, clean white sand and no trash, but private property and either costs money or you have to be at the resort to visit. Other beaches are full of trash or not that nice. I feel the ones on the east side are full of trash. Starfish Beach is also super popular but can look dirty at times, and also some seasons don’t have starfish. I heard Long Beach was good but I didn’t check it out.
- Sunset Town – the “Venice of Vietnam”. A newly-developed area built to imitate Italian town aesthetics. Mediterranean-inspired buildings, a facade of the Colosseum, statues, an arch, nice shops, and people running around everywhere.
- Phu Quoc Night Market – some fun streetfooding and people watching.
- Cable cars – I heard this is fun (beautiful views) but a pain to schedule off-season. Because you have to be there at a certain time or you have to wait 1-2 hours for the returning car.
- Floating Village Rach Vem – I didn’t go but heard it might be interesting.
- VinPearl Safari Park – Vietnam’s largest wildlife conservation park. I didn’t go but sounds fun. Should take 3 hours.
- Snorkeling
- Boat tours & island hopping –
- Phu Quoc Gallery of Contemporary Art (GoCA) – I wanted to do this and read online that it was cool but I didn’t go since GoogleMaps showed “CLOSED”.
- Buildings & architecture –
- Parks, gardens, green spaces –
- Beaches, bridges, water-points –
- Arts & museums –
- Sunset views –
